Tallinn is the capital of Estonia, a beautiful country in the Baltic which was formerly part of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. This place surpassed my expectations and has been one of my favorite destinations ever. It simply stole my heart. Here we tell you about the landmarks that will make you want to visit Tallinn, Estonia.
Take a Look! These are at the Landmarks That Will Make You Want to Visit Tallinn, Estonia
Alexander Nevsky Cathedral
This is an orthodox cathedral in the Tallinn Old Town, Estonia. It was built under the Russian Empire by Tsar Alexander III in 1894 and it is Tallinn’s largest and grandest orthodox cupola cathedral. It comprises 11 bells, including Tallinn’s largest bell, which weighs 15 tons. It’s so impressive that you’d enjoy it even if you aren’t religious!
Kadriorg Park
The beautiful Kadriorg Park was built by Peter the Great orders. He named it after his wife, Catherine. We enjoyed the beautiful gardens, waterfalls, birds, and walking trails. It’s one of the most breathtaking gardens I have ever seen.
Estonia’s Presidential Palace
This is located close to the Kadriorg Park. Built in 1938, this is the official residence of the Estonian president. We couldn’t visit the interiors, but it was amazing that we could get close to this building. No gates just 2 ceremonial guards out front.
Estonian Russalka Monument
Built in 1902, this monument honors the 177 men who lost their lives at the Gulf of Finland on the Russian navy vessel called Russalka. The sculpture consists of an angel holding an Orthodox cross towards the assumed direction of the shipwreck.
The Viru Gate & Fat Margaret Tower
Built-in the 14th century these are the last of six gates that controlled access to the town in medieval times and are part of what it’s known as “the walls of Tallinn”. The Fat Margaret Tower is currently home to the Estonian Maritime Museum.
This was probably my favorite spot in Tallinn as it made me feel like I was living in a fairytale town. While there we even found a really cool friend, the one and only Shrek the ogre! I’m sharing this picture with you because it is one of my favorite pictures of my entire trip.
