We all know that sports are tremendously beneficial for children. However, in a world full of great options such as soccer, volleyball, swimming, softball, and basketball among others, it’s hard to choose which one is best for your kids!
I say that one particular sport isn’t necessarily better than the others; you just need to find which sports best suits your children.
My daughters, MM and Gigi, love music and as toddlers, they are full of energy. After trying ballet and swimming lessons, I decided I wanted to expose them to something new that would combine sports and dancing.
After evaluating all our options, gymnastics was a no brainer. A kid can obtain many benefits by practicing this sport!
If you are exploring this possibility, here are my top five reasons to choose gymnastics for your kids, especially if they are toddlers:
1. Increases Coordination
With gymnastics, children become more aware of their bodies. By learning new movements and combining those, kids obtain better coordination. It also improves basic motor skills such as standing, walking and jumping.
2. Improves Flexibility
One of the core benefits of gymnastics is improving flexibility. This will help them have better posture and will prevent injuries in the future.
3. Creates Discipline
4. Increases Self-Esteem
The sense of achievement and accomplishment drives to great self-esteem. The recognition from others, including their peers, will make them feel they are valued.
A close friend of mine is a gymnast. She has so many fantastic memories and said it was some of the best years of her life.
OMG! I appreciate so much this feedback. Can’t wait for my daughters to make amazing childhood memories thorough gymnastics! 🙂 Thanks Kristen!
We just started my son in gymnastics last fall. He LOVES it! He’s learned so much and loves to perform at home. His classes start up again next week!
Aww I’m so happy for you and your son! Wishing you lots of fun! 🙂
I enrolled my son in karate classes when he was five years old, mostly for self-defense purposes. He loved the sport so much that he never stopped training since then, and now we’re gearing up for his next belt test and his first national competition. Karate has taught him to become patient, focused, and goal-oriented. 🙂
Yay! That’s exactly why I want my girls to try Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, self defense is so important! Kudos to you mama!
It’s important for children to start a sport to develop, when they are small. Gymnastics is a great one, as it does teach them discipline and posture.
I agree 100%. The earlier the better.
My son just turned 3 and is old enough to take a toddler tumbler class that our Rec Center offers. I’m so excited for him to start!
My youngest is also 3 and I think is a great age to start.
My girls don’t want to go to their gymnastics class. I always wanted them to try this but they do not know what are the benefits that they could get from it. I ahve to share this with them.
I didn’t know that there are so many benefits that we could get by trying gymnastics. I have to introduce this sport to my kids now.
Go for it! You will not regret it!
I have a few friends with daughters who attend gymnastics and they love it! I didn’t realise it had so many benefits.
Isn’t it amazing? It’s learning and developing while playing and having fun! What’s not to love, right?
I wasn’t aware of the great benefits of gu=gymnastics for kids. Thanks for sharing
Gymnastics is pretty awesome. I had both my children in it when they were young. As they grew older, they felt like they were getting too big, but it was beneficial for them for all the reasons you list.
Exactly! I don’t know what future holds for my girls, but as of right now it has been the best decision! Thanks for your feedback!
Thanks for sharing this post. It is really important for kids.
I been wanting to put my daughter in gymnastics for a while now. She’s in dance so gymnastics would be great for her!
My girls did baby ballet and I can tell you right away that background has helped them in gymnastics! Especially posture and rhythm. Go for it mama!
These are all great traits to come out of gymnastics. I remember I did it for awhile when I was younger and I really enjoyed it! I hope your daughter loves it just as much too, thanks for sharing!
I appreciate this comment so much. The fact that you have fond memories of it all makes me think my girls will too. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!
That’s good thta gymnastics are a good way for kids to associate exercise with fun. I have been looking for ways to get my daughter to exercise, but she is just not that into it. I’ll have to suggest gymnastics and see if she likes that idea.
By all means. It’s like playing and I’m sure she’ll love it. 🙂
