THIS MOM IS GOING PLACES

About This Mom

Family at Legoland

My name is Alexandra.

I am Puerto Rican.

I am a Marketing Communications professional with a Full Time job.

I am passionate, loud, bold, creative and fun.

And I am a Mom.

I have two beautiful daughters whose nicknames are MM and Gigi.

I’ve always loved to travel and explore new places.

At age 21, when I got my B.A degree and landed my first job I made a promise to myself:

To visit a new place each year of my life, somewhere I have never been.

Thankfully I have been able to keep that promise. Sometimes I have traveled for business, sometimes for fun.  Sometimes I have traveled by air, sometimes by water, and some have been road trips.

So far I have visited 56 cities in 14 countries across three different continents… and counting.

Nevertheless, sometimes life circumstances change, and you’re not sure if you will be able to continue achieving your personal objectives.  Especially when you are a mom.

And that’s what happened to me.

On March 2016, I had to make the hardest decision of my life. I decided to leave my beautiful island, my friends, my family, and everything I knew, looking for better opportunities for my family in California.

Saying it has been hard is an understatement. It has been hell of a rough journey. I knocked on many, many doors. Some were closed. Some were slammed into my face. At some point I felt defeated. Frustrated. Discouraged.

Then I saw my girls and I remembered my purpose. Those faces reminded me what I came to California looking for. I was persistent, resilient, and finally my big break arrived. I got a great job. I met new friends. I was able to rent an apartment, buy furniture and buy a car. I Made It!  I achieved the American Dream, or so I thought.

Of course apartments, furniture, and cars come with a price tag. I know I needed to work hard, and I did. I worked so hard that I would wake up in the morning, get ready, get the girls ready, drop them off at daycare and go to work. Later, I would get out of work to pick them up, give them a bath, feed them, put them to bed and finally I was able to sleep myself. That was our daily routine. During the weekends, I was so tired that I just wanted to do a whole lot of nothing.

At certain point I had an epiphany. I told myself: “Alexandra, what are you doing? Time flies. The girls are growing up so fast. You are waiting for the perfect time to do what you want to do with the girls but the perfect time will not just come up! You need to MAKE the time for it. You are missing out, and worse than that, the girls are missing out which is not fair”.

So I decided to make a change. I committed to my family. I promised to have fun! I chose to work for a living rather than living to work. Ultimately at the end of the day, when they get older they will not remember how expensive their shoes were, but will remember the fun experiences they had.

Just like that, we packed and went to new places for us. Just like that, we discovered amazing restaurants, fun attractions, beautiful cities!  Just like that, MM and Gigi are happier kids and I’m a happier mom. The mom that they deserve.

In this blog, I want to share with you our journey and hopefully get you inspired to pack, grab your kids, do fun things and…GO PLACES!

Thanks for reading my blog!

Love,  Alexandra
